Empowering the Community Through Mental Health Education
We are grateful for our ongoing partnership with the Gail Borden Library, which has allowed us to provide free mental health education sessions to the community.
October 2023 – Our first session focused on challenging negative thoughts and uncovering core beliefs that hold us back. With about 15 participants, the class created a safe space for individuals to share personal experiences around anxiety, panic, self-esteem, and self-worth. Participants also learned techniques from our Think & Behave Better Collection and left with practical affirmations to navigate challenges. 92% reported feeling empowered by the session and affirmed the use of positive affirmations as a skill.
“This seminar helped me to remember to stay grounded and not give in. It helped me choose solid core beliefs to hold onto. Thank you!”
“I really appreciated this session and hearing from other people. I really felt it is possible to overcome my anxiety and that is a start. Thank you very much!”
March 2024 – We returned with a session on improving communication using the DEARMAN framework. About 10 participants reflected on personal situations—from challenges with a boss to struggles in marriage—and applied the framework to craft personalized responses. 100% of participants were able to define the DEARMAN technique and apply its steps to strengthen their communication.
September 2024 – In partnership with the Gail Borden Library and KCHD, we launched the full four-part Think & Behave Better Series. Covering topics such as challenging negative thoughts, promoting positive patterns, building behavioral discipline, and overcoming stuck points, each session was capped at 20 participants due to overwhelming demand and a growing waitlist.
“This class is very helpful and interesting. I love the rock and I keep it in my pocket. I still lash out in frustration, but I am finding much better coping skills.”
“This is a very valuable program that should be offered periodically to help people improve their lives.”
85% of participants rated the program simple to learn and understand, and 85% said they would recommend it to others.Through these sessions, we’ve seen firsthand how creating safe, supportive spaces allows community members to connect, share, and leave equipped with tools that can truly make a difference in their everyday lives.
